Some dogs hate baths, so cleaning them is difficult and time-consuming. In addition, too frequent bathing of dogs (unless it is absolutely necessary in the case of a certain disease) can remove valuable oils from the skin and coat. This makes it dry, irritated and reduces the effectiveness of the defense against bacteria. In addition, in winter, we don't necessarily like to clean the dog completely after every walk. Fortunately, there are a few methods you can use safely that don't require water.

Above all, however, we would like to ask that you absolutely do not use products created for people! In addition, another important rule is to follow the instructions for use of the chosen products. Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s get down to business!

Dry shampoo

It is a huge help for bad hair days in humans, and the versions for dogs allow for fur cleaning without rinsing. It is also available in powder or spray form. If you use it according to the description, you don’t have to worry about it drying out your pet’s skin or fur. If you are unsure, feel free to ask the groomer or the veterinarian for advice on what they recommend. We’ll show you how to use it.

As a first step, thoroughly brush the dog’s fur so that no dirt remains in it. Then, spray their coat everywhere except the head. Rub it thoroughly into the fur so that the product reaches the lowest layers. If the dog starts to lick it, don’t let him! As a third step, brush his coat again to remove excess dry shampoo. Wipe gently with a dry towel.

Wet wipes

If you don’t use wet wipes yet, you don’t know what you’re missing! It is particularly effective for puppies, but it can also be used as well for adult dogs. After a walk or toilet break, just wipe the affected areas with it and the carpet and sofa are safe again.

The wipes made for dogs are also suitable for completely cleaning the paws, head and coat. However, the eyes, mouth and ears should be avoided. It might be worth taking this with you when you go somewhere, just like the poop bag.

If you can, choose one that is fragrance-free and biodegradable.

Baking soda

Baking soda kills bacteria and super neutralizes odors. It is harmless if ingested in small amounts, but is dangerous for dogs if they consume large amounts. Before using it, ask your veterinarian for an opinion on the matter, as some dogs may be allergic to it.

Its effect is essentially similar to dry shampoo. You can use it on its own, but you can also mix it half-and-half with cornstarch. Comb your four-legged friend’s coat thoroughly, then sprinkle the mixture from neck to tail. Massage it into the fur, then let it work its beneficial effects. When done, comb the fur and wipe it with a dry towel.

Use this method no more than once a week, and what’s more important, if the vet doesn’t recommend it, don’t force it!
