The last day of the year means carefree entertainment for many, or at least a table laden with abundance. To ensure that the New Year’s Eve party is safe for the dog as well, we have gathered a list of dishes that are forbidden for them.

These should not be given to your dog

1) Potatoes with onions and mayonnaise salad

All onions are poisonous to dogs, so don’t give your pet a potato salad flavoured with onions or a roast with garlic mayonnaise (the list can be extended to include all onion dishes, of course.)

2.) Cream liqueurs, champagne

It is clear that alcohol is dangerous to animals. Yes, even a lick of it, so don’t let your pet indulge from the bottom of the glass!

3.) Chocolate desserts

Chocolate and all desserts containing cocoa are strictly forbidden for pets, as the compound theobromine in them can cause serious poisoning.

4) Raisin bread

Grapes and raisins are also toxic to dogs. How badly a dog reacts depends on individual sensitivity, but vets warn against experimenting: in their experience, sometimes just a little is enough to cause severe sickness.

4.) Roast sausage

Although the smell probably lures your dog to the table, the sausage is too fatty for him. Dogs with pancreatic problems are particularly at risk from fatty foods, but even healthy dogs can get a heavy bite.

5) Nothing diabetic!

It is important to know that birch sugar, also known as xylitol, is very toxic
to dogs. So even if it seems like a good idea to offer your pet a sugar-free treat, don’t do it! By the way, don’t be so kind even if it contains another type of sugar substitute: these products are not for animals!

6) Be careful with fish!

Although fish is usually eaten at Christmas, but there are some places where it is also served on New Year’s Eve. But just as we have to watch out for splinters, they can get stuck in the dog’s throat and travel down the stomach or intestines.

You can also offer her these

If you want to treat your pet to a tasty snack or two in the spirit of celebration, choose from the following!

  • Safe fruit and vegetables. Apples, bananas, citrus fruit in moderation, carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes in moderation, not spicy, pumpkin, beetroot (not vinegar!)
  • Cooked or fried, the most nutty (not peppery, not chilliy, not too salty) cuts of meat possible.
  • While a small bite of pastry or the end of a baguette is unlikely to cause a problem, they are quite fattening. In fact, you are simply getting your dog used to snacking. It is better to offer the healthy alternatives listed above. However, there is still a risk that your companion may become spoiled and will then always beg for more.
