The best thing about Easter egg decorating is that everyone can make really unique decorations based on their own tastes and interests. If you love dogs, here's a great idea!

You only need a few things and you can even get your child involved in the craft. If you’re tired of plain eggs painted red, blue or green, you might want to try this easy Easter dog decoration.

What will you need?

As many eggs as you want to decorate, of course. These should be blown out in advance or cooked hard so that they don’t spoil too quickly. Clean the egg thoroughly with dishwasher liquid before blowing it out.

Blowing out the egg

To blow out, drill two small holes into the top and bottom of the egg. You can also use the edge of a knife or a needle, or both. Make sure the egg doesn’t crack and the holes are big enough, but not too big! To blow, cut a small piece of straw and blow the air through it. Place a bowl under the egg so that the whites and yolks flow into it. When only the air flows through the eggshell, you’re done. Then wash the egg again, and blow into it once more to get out any water that may have gotten in. Repeat the process with each egg to be decorated.

This is what you will need to decorate

  • acrylic paint or tempera, but you can also use permanent markers
  • coloured felt pieces
  • scissors
  • pen
  • glue gun
  • toilet paper roll

The first step is to decorate the egg with paint or markers as you like. Draw eyes, nose and mouth for the puppy, the egg will be its face. You can also use the original colour of the egg, or even recolour the whole thing. Children can help with this too.

Once that’s done, time for the ears. Puppies have a wide variety of ears and the only limit is your imagination. They can be upright, kayla, forward, long, tiny or large. Draw these on the felt with a pen, then cut them out. It’s worth leaving a small amount of additional material to make gluing easier.

To keep the egg stable, you can also put a collar on the puppies. Cut a thin strip from a toilet paper roll, then cut a piece of coloured felt to cover it completely. You can also put a bow on the collar, you just need a tiny piece, which you glue together and then glue on the collar. Glue the ears and the collar to the egg. Then the doggy eggs are ready!
